Two police horses injured in dog attack in Essex

  • Two police horses in Essex have been injured after being attacked by a Stafforshire bull terrier.

The dog, which was off a lead, attacked the two horses — Rosie and Toffee — who were on patrol in Northgate, Harlow, on Wednesday (28 October).

Rosie was seriously wounded and will remain under veterinary care for at least five days. Toffee received stitches but should be back at the police stables soon.

During the attack the horses bolted, throwing their riders, a male officer aged 35 and a female officer aged 43. The pair were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

“A woman from Harlow has been arrested on suspicion of being out of control of a dangerous dog,” said a spokesman for Essex police

Mark Weston BHS director of access, safety and welfare told H&H: “I welcome the action that the police have taken in this instance, and would encourage the police to investigate all such reports with the same vigour.”
