Katie Roberts claimed the first two show hunter pony sections with Debbie Thomas’s Greylands Maid in the Dark heading the 122cms, and Sue Andrews’s Rhoden Master Frederick taking the 133cms. The eight-year-old Rhoden Master Frederick, bred by Chris Willett also won at the RIHS as well as Royal Windsor, south of England and BSPS Area 7.
“Harriet Dennison took the ride on Greylands Maid in the Dark in the final at very short notice, and took the title,” said Debbie, “it was the first time in the main arena for both of them.”
Emma Jackson who was second here last time moved up to head the 143cms with her mother’s Thimbley Final Edition.
“I last won here with Colbeach Sensation when I was ten,” said Emma, “and now this is my last season in short boots.”
Penny Hollings’s homebred Pendle First Light headed the 153cms with Chelsea Foster on her debut here, although it was Chelsea’s final ride on the mare, as she moves out of the class.
Sophie Manners travelled from Hawick in Scotland with her home produced Waxwing Pringle and led her daughter Millie (7yrs) to head the show hunter pony lead rein.
Louise Edgar’s ten-year-old mare Wilderness Carmen headed the 153cms show riding type intermediate 153cms to give them their first HOYS victory, they then went one better to claim the intermediate show riding type title. It was a double celebration as Louise’s mother Wendy had taken the miniature Horse title earlier in the week.
Adam Winbourne’s Opium Casa (Leona) who he had taken reserve hack with the previous day, returned to take reserve intermediate with Yasmin Cuddy from the 158cms. The thoroughbred mare had also won the hacks at the Hickstead Derby this time.
