Tractor crashes into parked cars at Burghley Horse Trials

  • Burghley Horse Trials organisers dealt with two unrelated vehicle incidents last weekend when a Range Rover rolled off a ramp during a demonstration and a tractor careered into three parked cars.

On Saturday, a vehicle on the Land Rover stand’s “Terrapod” — a steel all-terrain course with hill descents, climbs and slippery surfaces — came off the course.

A Land Rover instructor and his two passengers were unhurt.

A spokesman for Land Rover said there was a problem with the hydraulic tilting ramp.

And in a separate incident later that day, a tractor assisting with the rescue of Harry Meade’s horse Dunauger hit three unoccupied cars, damaging one badly.

Burghley spokesman Bridget Burbidge said organisers would investigate how the accident happened.

An eye-witness said the tractor had been parked on a steep incline in case it was needed to pull the fence apart and rolled around 200m backwards down the slope.
