A woman who neglected 69 horses at her farm in North Wales will be sentenced today (3 September).
Dawn Rose, 49, of Pen Y Gelli farm at Pontfadog near Chirk pleaded guilty to neglect and cruelty in July this year and will be sentenced at Mold Magistrates court on Thursday 3 September.
Rose had all 69 horses removed from her farm in October 2008 in a joint operation involving the RSPCA, World Horse Welfare and Wrexham District Council.
The horses were found in various states of poor body condition including emaciation and suffering from rainscald and parasites.
Three horses had to be euthanised. RSPCA officers said she failed to give the horses antibiotics and fed them a poor diet which left them starving.
The RSPCA said three horses called Mist, Crystal and Owain were in appalling condition.
One RSPCA officer described a horse called Mist as “the thinnest horse ever seen.
Mist received round the clock attention from RSPCA staff and is now happily living in a sanctuary in Shropshire.
