Eleven-year-old horse rider’s death ruled as accidental

  • The death of an eleven-year-old schoolgirl who was kicked by a horse has been ruled as accidental.

Keen rider Eloise Peek, known as Ellie, from Newton St Faith in Norfolk died after being kicked by a horse on 7 June. She suffered severe head and spinal injuries.

Ellie was in a field at her grandparents’ farm in Hainford, preparing for a show with her pony Flynn when she kicked by another horse.

An inquest last Friday (3 July) heard how her mother, Michelle, had been in the house at the time.

Michelle ran out to her daughter and attempted to resuscitate her while her husband, Andrew, called an ambulance.

Ellie was flown to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital by air ambulance but died 12 hours later.

Greater Norwich coroner William Armstrong, said: “It is almost certain Eloise would have lost consciousness instantly when this happened, which may be some comfort for her family.

“Having spoken to her family, I know she was an exuberant girl with a passion for life and for horses. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to her family and their mourning of Eloise, of all she was and she was likely to become.”
