A rider in South California was attacked last week by so-called killer bees.
Jacquie Ball of Torrance, California was stung repeatedly but managed to escape after they attacked her while out riding in the Palos Verdes area.
A swarm of Africanised, or what have come to be known as killer bees because of their aggressive behaviour, fell upon Jacquie while she was out riding on Upper Si’s Canyon Trail last week.
She jumped down from her horse and let loose a yearling she was leading as the bees attacked her head and the horse she was riding.
The hive was later found in an old water meter and removed.
Africanised bee attacks have become common in parts of California in the past 15 years.
