Jonathan Chapman breaks ribs and punctures lung in fall at Aston

  • Event rider and British Eventing-accredited coach Jonathan Chapman is recovering after a fall at Aston-le-Walls last week.

Jonathan was taken to Coventry Hospital on Thursday (14 May) where he is being treated for three cracked ribs, a collapsed lung and a fractured pelvis and shoulder.

Jonathan was riding six-year-old gelding West Side in a novice class at Aston. They fell at fence 12 during the cross-country due to what he says was “rider error”.

The pair had earlier scored 30 in the dressage and had only one fence down in the show jumping.

Jonathan said on his website: “Thank you to all my well-wishers and apologies that I may not be able to reply to messages immediately due to poor mobile signal.

“A big thank you to everyone at Aston-le-Walls, the organisers, medical staff and fence judges for their prompt and professional attendance. West Side is doing fine and JC will ride again!”
