For the first time this year the Royal Windsor Horse Show (13-17 May) will have a day dedicated to hunting, with a discount for hunt members.
Hunt Day, on Thursday, 14 May, will include an inter-hunt relay competition in the main Castle Arena, show hunter classes and a parade of hounds.
Organiser Simon Brooks-Ward told H&H: “Hunting has been a part of Royal Windsor for many years — our meet of 10 packs of hounds on the Sunday is very popular.
“We hope that by adding the inter-hunt challenge, we can encourage more hunting people to attend on the Thursday, and make it a social event, too.”
Sixteen hunts will contest the £1,000-to-the-winner inter-hunt relay, over fences created by top show jumping course-designer Bob Ellis.
Hunter showing will take place all day, with classes for lightweight, middleweight and heavy hunters in the Copper and Castle arenas.
Alistair Jackson, director of the Masters of Foxhounds Association, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for hunting to enhance its role in the wider equestrian scene.”
• Hunt subscribers can get 20% off a members’ enclosure ticket for 14 May (£24), tel: 0871 2305568. Standard entry starts at £13. www.rwhs.co.uk
