A horse has died after being hit by a lorry in Co Durham.
The horse was knocked down by the lorry on the A689 near Toronto, Bishops Auckland at about 9.15am this morning (Tuesday 24 March).
The animal died at the scene. The driver of the lorry was unhurt.
Co Durham police confirmed that the road was shut for about 40 minutes while the horse was removed by a local farmer
