A horse has been killed and a jockey injured in a five-horse pile-up at an American racecourse.
The accident occurred during the second race on Wednesday (4 March) at New York’s Aqueduct racecourse.
Private Details, a three-year-old filly trained by John Terranova, broke her near fore cannon bone during the race.
She broke down and brought down the rest of the field, except the two front-runners.
Winner Southern Oaks and runner up Quantifier were the only two horses to finish the race.
Private Details’s jockey, Eddie Castro, was thrown off and taken to the Jamaica Hospital. He was later released with a bruised left shoulder.
None of the other four horses or jockeys are reported to have been injured.
