Racehorse Notre Pere made history last Saturday (27 December) becoming the first Irish-trained horse to win the Welsh National.
Ridden by Irish jockey Andrew Lynch the 7-year-old won by 7 lengths to Cornish Sett in second.
2006 Welsh National winner, the Alan King-trained Halcon Genelardais, finished third.
Notre Pere is trained by Jim Dreaper — son of Tom Dreaper who trained the legendary three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Arkle.
In reply to speculation that the horse will content the 2009 Grand National, Mr Dreaper said after the race: “If I had my way he wouldn’t run as he’ll only be 8. Maybe in a year or so.”
