Six foals and two horses killed in ‘suspicious’ fire


  • Six foals and two horses have been killed in a suspected arson attack in Surrey.

    The fire broke out at around 6pm on Sunday (7 December) in an outbuilding in Green Lane, Chertsey.

    Surrey police are treating the fire as suspicious.

    A number of livestock, including the horses, were killed and the building was severely damaged. No humans were injured.

    Surrey Fire and Rescue received a call from a member of the public at 6.07pm

    A spokesman from Surrey Fire and Rescue said: “An appliance from Chertsey arrrived at the scene at 6.11pm followed by a second appliance from Painshill and a water carrier.

    “The fire was under control at 7.53pm using 2 hose reels and 1 jet. The single story building used as stables was severely damaged by fire.”

    A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “Detectives from Staines CID are carrying out an extensive investigation into this incident but at this stage no one has been arrested in connection with the incident. Surrey Police officers remain at the scene while the investigation continues.”
