Ebor meeting at York — day one and two cancelled

    • York Racecourse has been forced to abandon the first two days of their Ebor meeting, after heavy rainfall has left the course unraceable.

    Areas of the course were left waterlogged after the weekend’s bad weather.

    And an 8.30am track inspection this morning (Tuesday 19 August) showed the track to be unraceable after 11mm rain fell overnight.

    Today’s racing would have included the much talked about showdown between Duke of Marmalade and New Approach in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes.

    There was no improvement after a further inspection at 4pm today and York was forced to cancel tomorrow’s racing — which was to include the Ebor.

    An inspection at 12pm tomorrow (Wednesday, 20 August) will determine whether racing will be held on Thursday.

    York said they “deeply regret” abandoning tomorrow’s racing but the Met Office had issued a severe weather warning.
