The International Police Horse of the Year Competition is to be staged for the first time in 12 years as part of Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture celebrations.
The event will be staged across three days at the brand new Aintree International Equestrian Centre, at the home of the Grand National, between August 26 and 28.
Last held in 1996, when the outright winner was coincidentally Constable Stephen Fry, a Merseyside police officer, the competition has it’s roots in the style of military shows and used to feature tent pegging and shooting from horse back.
Now, it will feature jumping, dressage and operational displays by from the UK’s police horses including the nuisance lanes to test the horses’ bravery to the maximum.
Head of Merseyside Police’s Mounted Division, Inspector Graham Howard, said: “We are enormously proud to host this event on Merseyside. It will be a spectacular show that will showcase the skills and bravery of Police horses and their riders from around the world.”
