Twenty women stripped off for charity yesterday (Monday 19 May) to take part in a naked ‘Lady Godiva’ ride through Hyde Park.
The ride was organised by young British film director Vicky Jewson, to coincide with the DVD release of her film Lady Godiva.
Vicky told H&H: “The ride was a massive success. There was a big crowd and we got an incredibly positive response — no wolf whistling or anything like that. The girls were fantastic and not shy at all.”
By shedding their clothing the naked ladies raised over £5,000 for Maggie’s Cancer Support Centre — which has units based in Scotland and Oxfordshire.
Frances Milner, director of fundraising for Maggie’s said: “What Vicky has done is fantastic. We are over the moon that she is supporting our charity.”
Among the naked riders was Oxford’s 107.9 FM ‘Girls Talk’ presenter, Rosie Tratt, who gallantly volunteered to partake in the campaign. Rosie said: “I can’t believe I actually did it. It was one of the most outrageous and exciting things I have ever done.”
The film is a modern take on the story of Lady Godiva, an 11th-century noblewoman who, according to legend, rode naked through Coventry in protest against her husband’s harsh taxation of his people.
