World Horse Welfare celebrates birth of first foal

  • Staff at World Horse Welfare (formerly the ILPH) are celebrating the birth of their first ‘World Horse Welfare’ foal.

Born on Monday 12 May, 11 days after the charity renamed from the ILPH, the tiny bay colt will be the very first foal to take the new World Horse Welfare pre-fix and he is a born fighter.

“We are delighted that this little chap has come into the world without any problems,” says the charity’s Norfolk centre manager Sue Hodgkins.

“When his heavily pregnant mother was admitted into our care a month ago she was emaciated and we had to prepare ourselves to step in and provide extra milk and care for the foal.

“Thankfully he began to suckle straight away and our vet has given him the all clear. He is a very special foal in more ways than one!”

The bay foal who has two white socks and a white nose has yet to be named and World Horse Welfare has decided to invite the public to choose his name via a competition at its Norfolk Recovery and Rehabilitation centre.

Opening times are 11am – 4pm Wednesdays, weekends and bank holidays and the closing date is 1st June. Entries are also being taken by phone on 01953 497239.
