Exotic diseases on the agenda for racing and breeding seminar

  • A discussion of the exotic diseases threatening to affect the British horse industry will take place as part of the 2007 Thoroughbred Racing and Breeding Seminar, at Cheltenham racecourse on Thursday, 15 November.

The seminar, now in its seventh year, focuses on the latest veterinary research to tackle areas of current concern to the industry.

It is recognised as an outstanding forum for members of the racing and breeding industry to obtain practical information.

There will be a session called Exotic and on our Doorstep, when Brigadier Paul Jepson and James Wood will address the threats and control of African Horse Sickness and West Nile Virus, in the light of other unexpected outbreaks of infectious disease.

Other presentations include a paper on the risk factors for fractures and tendon injuries; Rossdales’ report on extracorporeal shockwave therapy for limb deformities in foals; a study on respiratory disease; Lynn Hillyer’s analysis of the use of medication during training, an overview of strangles and a session on electrolytes.

The seminar will be chaired by Dr Peter Webbon and held in the Centaur at Cheltenham racecourse. Due to the seminar’s increasing popularity, early booking is recommended.
