Scottish Home Pony International show jumping

  • Fresh from being an integral part of Britain’s European success, James Smith headed the junior show jumper of the year qualifier at the Scottish Home Pony International at Lanark (2-5 August) on Mr Nice Guy.

Oliver Evans secured his HOYS ticket with Paddy Power, while George Whitaker finished third on Cavalcade.

The trip from the Isle of Wight proved beneficial for Poppy Green, who took top spot in the Squibb and Davies Junior Foxhunter second round on Salty’s Top Babe.

Melissa Cadden finished second with her seven-year-old Magners to take the first of the qualifying places. Danielle Willett claimed the second of the three HOYS places on the seven-year-old Another Dooley, who is now through to two finals. The final ticket went to Dundee-based Leo Lorimer on Oor William.

Yasmin Tanfield headed the 65-strong field in the HOYS 128cm on Silver Wonder. Yasmin also won the 128cm grand prix on Skibereen Girl. Qualification went down the line and brought success for Ellie Pownall (Real Cool Dude) and Laura Robinson (Orlando XI).

The 138cm grand prix winner More Than Milton was in a class of his own for Olivia Wells in the HOYS qualifier, so qualification once more went down the line.

Oliver Davies picked up the first ticket with Colour Code, while Jordan Nason continued his recent run of form with Wakeleys Foxhunter. Ella Howell and Cappagh Cindy took the final qualifying place.

The team competitions were hotly contested, with Ireland victorious in the 128cm section, while England took the 138cm gold. Nadine Warwick’s Scottish 148cm team swept to the gold medal for the second consecutive year.
