Royal International Horse Show

  • At the conclusion of four huge classes, Sam Roberts and Kirsty Gatland’s Sunglow Lady Paula were called forward to take the McDonald BSPS Heritage supreme ridden championship.

Bred at the Sunglow Stud, the eight-year-old Dales mare is by Sunglow Sovereign out of Dartdale Paula. Bought as a two-year-old, the black mare is in her first full season with Sam.

“I just sit on her at shows, and I can honestly say she is one of the most genuine ponies I have ever ridden” said Sam.

Mini champions came from the lead rein class, seven-year-old Cleo Kapadia clinching her third tricolour of the season with Gwauniarll Katie. The second placed first ridden pony Waxwing Paintbox took the reserve title for Jack Starkie.

After standing reserve to Sunglow Lady Paula in the McDonald Heritage ridden classes, Katy Marriott-Payne and Margaret Burnett’s Stoakbrook Jenny Wren clinched the NPS Topspec Supreme M&M working hunter pony championship.

This win concluded a dramatic 25hrs for the Northampton producer, who’s lorry broke down on the way home from the New Forest Show yesterday. “Thank goodness we managed to borrow another vehicle” said Katy. Reserve champions were Mathew Cooper riding Bellindene Rock Legend.
