The Emergency Services Protocol Fund has been boosted by a donation of £10,000 from the Horse Trust.
The fund was launched by the British Horse Society (BHS) and the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) to minimise the delay in assisting horses caught up in accidents, even if their owners cannot be traced. It follows the establishment of guidelines for police and fire services dealing with equine emergencies.
In addition to the donation from the Trust and an initial £6,000 from the BHS and £1,000 from BEVA, the fund has received support from many other donors, including Tattersalls, Thoroughbred Breeders Association, Fort Dodge and Schering-Plough animal health care, Crucial Genetics and £1,000 from the British Equestrian Trade Association.
Launched at Buckingham Palace on 15 May by The Princess Royal, the fund currently stands at about £50,000.
