BHS rides to celebrate 60th anniversary

  • Six different rides set over 10 miles in East Midlands counties will take place in May and June to mark the British Horse Society’s Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary).

The rides are on different days to ensure riders can enjoy 60 miles of East Midlands off-road tracks, forestry and parkland from the Wash banks in Lincolnshire to Chatsworth Park in Derbyshire.

“We wanted to do something that would identify with the number 60,” explained Wendy Peckham, BHS South Lincolnshire & East Midlands press officer. “And access and off-road riding are one of the Society’s core objectives.”

A BHS anniversary rosette will be presented for each completed ride, plus a certificate for completing all six.

“The rides will give riders an opportunity to go off-road on countryside not usually open to riders and on bridlepaths they might not have known about,” Wendy said.

The rides begin in Nottinghamshire (20 May) followed by South Lincolnshire (26 May), North Lincolnshire (3 June), Northamptonshire (10 June) and Derbyshire (17 June) before finishing in Leicestershire & Rutland (6 October).
