The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, took place on 5-21 August.
The 2016 Rio Olympics will be fondly remembered by British equestrians as being the Olympics when Nick Skelton, 58, won individual showjumping gold riding Big Star at his seventh attempt, and Charlotte Dujardin successfully defended her Olympic individual title, clinching the gold with a massive 93.857% on Valegro. There were no individual medals for Britain in the eventing and no British team medals in any of the three disciplines.

2016 Olympic showjumping medals
France won team gold, ahead of the USA took silver, with Germany narrowly claiming the bronze after a jump-off with Canada. The individual medals went down to a jump-off, with Nick Skelton and Big Star first to jump. They set a blisteringly quick clear round that proved unbeatable. Sweden’s Peder Fredricson took the silver on All In, with bronze going to Canada’s Eric Lamaze and Fine Lady 5.
2016 Olympic dressage medals
Germany took dressage team gold in Rio, while Britain claimed silver and the USA bronze. Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro retained their title as individual Olympic dressage champions for Britain, ahead of German riders Isabell Werth (Weihegold OLD) in silver and Krstina Broring-Sprehe (Desperados FRH) in bronze.
2016 Olympic eventing medals
France won another team gold medal in the eventing, ahead of Germany in silver with Australia in bronze. Germany’s Michael Jung retained his individual Olympic champion status from London 2012 with Sam FBW, ahead of France’s Astier Nicolas on Piaf De Bneville in silver. Phillip Dutton claimed bronze for the USA on Mighty Nice.

The events were held at Deodoro Park, which was a military base that previously stabled army horses. The venue also hosted the para dressage for the Paralympics that followed from 7-18 September.
