The Mexican showjumper Alberto Valdés Ramos — who was a member of the gold medal-winning Olympic team at the London 1948 Games — has died at the age of 93.
He was the oldest surviving member of Mexico’s winning jumping team.
Valdés inspired many future riders — including his son Alberto Valdés Lacarram, who won team bronze at the Moscow 1980 Olympics.
Valdés was a torch bearer at the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara at the age of 92.
