Eventer Laura Collett is ‘stable’ after heavy fall at Tweseldown

  • Laura Collett is in a “stable” condition in hospital, following a heavy fall at Tweseldown Horse Trials in Hampshire yesterday (8 July).

The 23-year-old was competing in an intermediate section when her horse, the seven-year-old mare, Tis a Beauty, fell on the cross-country course.

She was taken to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey and remains in intensive care.

Details of her injuries are not known, but a statement posted on her website said she had been “stabilised” and had “a comfortable night”. H&H’s reporter at Tweseldown said Laura was conscious when she was stretchered into the ambulance.

    The mare was uninjured.

Last night, Laura head girl, Felicity Roberts tweeted she was “praying for Laura”. But this morning she sounded more confident.

“Show must go on so off hacking on Rayef and Noble Bestman so they are all fit and healthy for when she returns!” she tweeted.

Fellow eventers have sent their good wishes to Laura, a popular rider on the circuit.

“All our thoughts go out to Laura,” said Lauren Shannon, while Kitty King tweeted: “Fingers crossed she is ok and for a speedy recovery”.

Laura was at Barbury Horse Trials last weekend, where she gave a dressage demonstration with the dual Gold Cup winner, Kauto Star, who was sent to her for a new career when he retired from racing.
