Dettori turns masterchef

  • Top jockey, Frankie Dettori, hopes for a win with his new venture Italian pizzas

It may not be the obvious choice for a flat race jockey that has to watch his weight, but that has not deterred Italian-born Frankie Dettori from following his passion for tasty home cooking.

Frankies own brand of pizza is now available from Iceland stores and is expected to be taken up by the Tesco stores at a later date.

Frankie decided to extend his talents into this new venture after his near-fatal plane crash in Newmarket more than a year ago.

“After the crash I thought: ‘If I don’t start doing these things now, I may never get the chance’ so I decided to launch the food range,” said Frankie. “Now, I live every day as if it might be my last. It’s been a dream of mine to launch my own range of Italian foods. I’m Italian and I love food.

“I’m fed up of what is called Italian food in this country – frozen pizzas that look like frisbees.

” I’ve always been interested in cooking – coming from an Italian family you can’t be any other way. I’ve put some thought into the new range as I can’t be a jockey all my life.”

Frankie is said to be a keen chef at his home and loves to entertain.

He came up with his new pizza product after together with family and friends tested recipes and combinations of flavours over a period of a year.

Frankie says the products are basedon a traditional Italian pizza base and made with traditional Italian equipment.

The range of foods will be extended to include ice-creams, sauces, dressings and pasta.
